MV ruffled a few feathers in the laptop industry when it introduced its first laptop, the MV Mobius at a price that couldn’t be ignored. The company is hoping to cause the same stir with the launch of its second machine, the desktop replacement MV Ixius (£1526 inc. VAT). At this price point, the chassis supports an Intel 3GHz Pentium 4 processor (Hyper-Threading supported), 512MB of memory and 60GB hard drive. The company will announce faster specifications closer to the release date.
The company is promoting the Ixius as the ultimate gaming and entertainment laptop. Supplied with a high-definition 17.1-inch TFT screen and an improved audio sub-, the Ixius can be used as the heart of your home entertainment centre.
Gamers will like the use of an upgradeable graphics module, initially fitted with an nVidia GPU that can be slipped out and exchanged as and when new cards are made available. 802.11g wireless LAN capabilities come as standard. With the option to fit twin optical drives in the main body, users can copy discs without the need with change disks.
For those with a desire to keep in touch, a 300K video camera is built into the chassis for web conferencing or simply keeping in touch with family.
The MV Ixius will be made available at the start of November.
