As the competition heats up in the digital camera arena, Ricoh is set to make an impact with the 5.0-megapixel Caplio R1V. The compact camera’s retracting lens has an impressive 4.8x optical zoom, and its slimline aluminium body has a thickness of only 25mm.
Ricoh is promising “the world’s fastest shutter response,” with the ability to shoot in less than 0.8 seconds after turning on the Caplio R1V. The shutter release time is 0.05 to 0.1 seconds from when you press the button, so you’ll never miss a candid shot. For the ability to photograph both landscapes and close-ups, Ricoh has equipped the 150g camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens and a 1cm macro mode.
Ricoh’s final touch is the dual power option of rechargeable Lithium ion batteries or AA batteries, so users won’t be out of luck if they’re on the road away from mains power. The Caplio R1V, successor to the Caplio R1, will go on sale in February. Pricing is not yet confirmed.
