PNY MEMORY 333MHZ SODIMM DDR
The quickest way to give your laptop a performance boost is to add a greater amount of memory. The standard memory in any laptop is often referred to as a SO DIMM (Small Outline DIMM), which refers to the smaller packaging size of memory destined for a laptop rather than a desktop PC. Slotting PNY’s 200-pin memory stick (£50inc. VAT) into your laptop is all it takes to install – the BIOS will register its presence when you boot up.
In order to test the memory, we ran a Centrino-based system with a 400MHz FSB and typical 266MHz DDR SODIMM. Then, we replaced the memory with the PNY and ran the benchmarks again. As you will see from the results of our test laptop, the 333MHz memory does indeed offer a speed boost, but not as great as we had first hoped.
We have seen that there’s a graphics benefit to using 333MHz memory in Centrino laptops that use integrated graphics. However, in order to see any advantage from upgrading your laptop’s memory you will need to make sure the motherboard and chipset support the faster memory bandwidth. You can do this either by checking the documentation that came with your system or by contacting your laptop’s manufacturer. Alternatively, PNY has a handy memory configuration program on its website.
