A report in the latest issue of Human Reproduction journal is claiming that the prolonged use of laptops can lead to infertility in men. The author of the article, Dr Yefim Sheynkin, an associate professor of urology at the State University of New York, stated, "The increase in scrotal temperature is significant enough to cause changes in sperm parameters".
Sheynkin and his team studied the impact of laptop use on volunteers between the age of 21-35. By measuring scrotal temperature before and after they used a laptop on their lap, they were able to measure the difference in heat generated on the scrotal area. When the laptop was running, it was discovered that the temperature around the groin raised on average by 2.8 degrees.
"It shows that scrotal hyperthermia is produced by both special body posture and the local heating effect of laptop computers", Sheynkin said. What was it that Jerry Lee Lewis sang, something along the lines of “Goodness gracious, great……………”.
