The day when you’ll be able to treat your laptop in the same way as an old desktop PC by ripping the heart out of it and breathing new life in the form of better components is still some way away.
With the introduction of PCI Express in laptops that day is nearer than we think – as it allows for the upgrading of graphic modules. One of the problems manufacturers will have with upgradeable graphics is that they will need to come in the form of a module, as you’ll need a dedicated fan to keep everything cool.
Voodoo PC is one of the first companies to take advantage of the arrival of PCI Express in a mobile form factor in the shape of the Envy m:790. Built with the gamer in mind, Voodoo will support this chassis with an array of graphics adapters to suit the end-user.
While details about the actual specification are still thin on the ground, the company is willing to reveal that it will use an Intel Pentium 4 775 processor, which runs at 3.6GHz, as well as support up to 2GB of memory in the DDR-2 format.
Big intentions needs a larger than life chassis and the 17-inch screen of the Envy m:790 will make sure that it spends its life on your desk and not on the move. Available in the standard array of Voodoo colours, pricing has yet to be specified.
