It’s A Wireless Future

At a recent roundtable discussion, held by mobile technology leaders iAnywhere, some of the major players in the industry gathered to discuss the future of wireless networks and how we may all be affected by this ever-evolving technology. With the focus primarily on the business world, many topics came under discussion.
However, the main subjects concerned the lack of a suitable software base hindering mobile technology and the serious need for a strong infrastructure if it is to grow to its full potential. With the cost of implementing adequate signal coverage still proving too costly to make it worthwhile in more remote areas, true wireless connectivity is still some way off - particularly in areas other than cities and industry hotspots.
While Centrino technology has certainly improved, battery life technology itself is still moving too slowly to provide the ease of use required for successful mobile operations. With the industry pressing ahead, early adopters of any new technology will continue to gain the advantage over their competition while simultaneously assuming the role of guinea pigs. With wireless technology progressing at its current speed, easier implementation and support should surface within the next two years.
However, forecasts remain optimistic and, when asked if sights had been set too high for a technology that’s still in a very early form, Tim Harghest, Programme Manager of Global Infrastructure Services, had this to say - “Sights should be set high, because of the advantages that can be gained. We just have to make sure to keep our eyes open along the way”.
