Mini-Tablet Gains momentum
14/07/2005

Following a lukewarm response when launched three years ago, the Tablet PC platform is experiencing a resurgence with recent releases from major manufacturers. Tablet PC specialist Motion Computing has raised the bar further by unveiling the ultracompact LS800, a keyboard-free slate weighing only 1kg with an 8.4-inch display. Its small footprint and pen input functionality make it suitable for highly mobile industries such as healthcare and manufacturing.

The LS800 incorporates Intel’s latest components and runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. It’s powered by the Ultra Low Voltage 1.2GHz Pentium M 753 processor and 915GMS chipset. The unit comes with 256MB SDRAM, upgradeable to 512MB, and a maximum 60GB hard drive. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet, and the optional View Anywhere display for increased outdoor visibility. Security is bolstered by an integrated fingerprint reader and an embedded Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for hardware encryption. Pricing starts at £1,287 (inc. VAT).
