Prominent digital camera manufacturer Concord has just announced its newest technological innovation in the field of digital imaging - Wireless Image Transfer technology (WIT). Currently operating as a prototype, Concord’s WIT technology is being demonstrated via a tiny 2-inch Wi-Fi device, which plugs directly into a digital camera via USB.
Transmitting data using the 802.11g standard, the WIT device allows users to transmit images wirelessly across the Internet, from Concord digital cameras, as well as other brands that support mass storage technology. Claiming to transmit data around 20 times faster than mobile 3G networks and 1500 times quicker than standard GSM signals, Concord allege that users will be able to send a high-quality, 4-megapixel image in just 1/10th of a second, with video transfer beamed at an equally impressive 54Mbps.
Initially planned to be available as a standalone device, in the same mould as this initial prototype, Concord is also preparing to offer its WIT technology as an integrated module within a select range of cameras. At present there is no set date for release, but budding photographers can expect to pay around £200 for the standalone unit, upon release.
