In an eerily innovative move towards the techno-future that lies ahead, Microsoft has recently announced the launch of a device that aims to further diminish the human memory - the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader.
Created as a reaction to the ever-increasing level of passwords required in today’s web browsing experience, the new system provides the means to bypass input of all of your passwords, with one quick scan of a finger.
Easy to set up, the Fingerprint Reader launches a Setup Wizard upon installation, and allows you to then select your digit of choice and scan in your unique fingerprint pattern. Then, whenever you browse to a site that requires password access, simply press said finger onto the reader, type in your password, and the Fingerprint Reader will store the secret word away for instant fingerprint access from that point on.
Even compatible with Windows log-on facilities, the Fingerprint Reader ensures you need never forget a password again, providing an inventive solution to a common problem. However, the fact that Microsoft are shipping it with the guarded caveat that users should avoid using the unit for sensitive data such as iBanking information, indicates that a Phillip K. Dick future may still be a few steps away, and our memories may remain for at least a bit longer.
