The rapidly burgeoning Netbook market is to gain yet another machine in the form of the LG Netbook X110. With rivals being sold in traditional outlets such as PC World, LG’s mini machine is set to break the trend by going on sale in Phones 4u shops.
Looking a lot like MSI’s Wind, and also available in white, black and pink, the X110 is another machine that features a 10-inch screen. This means you’ll find a usable keyboard and a 1024 x 600 pixel screen that won’t leave you squinting.
Processing power is provided by an Intel Atom chip, as with most of its rivals. You’ll find 1024MB of memory in place for running the Windows XP Home OS at a reasonable pace. Solid-state storage is abandoned in favour of a tradition hard drive, but what you lose in robustness and power-saving is made up by the extra storage space – a generous 80GB.
Weight is kept to a portable 1.19kg through the use of a 3-cell battery, but this means you’re unlikely to better three hours of use from a single charge. Networking features are standard, comprising an 802.11b/g Wi-Fi chip and 10/100 Ethernet.
The fact it’s going on sale in Phones 4u suggests the X110 will be available at some point for free with a broadband contract, although contrary to some reports it doesn’t feature integrated 3G/HSDPA. Pricing for the X110 itself has yet to be confirmed, but it’s set to go on sale at the beginning of November.
