Toshiba is releasing its Gigabeat hard drive music players in time to herald the sounds of summer. It’s offered in seven colours and four capacities, including 10GB in silver, blue or black acrylic; 20GB in silver or black brushed aluminium; 40GB in champagne brushed aluminium; and 60GB in ‘steel’ brushed aluminium. The 40GB and 60GB models come with an in-line remote, and all Gigabeats come with a docking cradle and rechargeable battery with an estimated 16-hour lifespan.
The 2.2-inch colour screen has a 320 x 420 resolution for displaying album art and photos, and creating slideshows to accompany your music. The MP3, WMA and WAV audio formats are supported. Users will be able to download tracks using Windows Media Player 10 and the Napster To Go subscription service. Aspiring to be another ‘lifestyle’ product, the www.gigabeat.com community website has already been launched. The Gigabeat reaches UK shores in June.
