What does your laptop say about you? Does it say you’re a businessperson busy about town, or are you a lounge lizard, living life through a web cam? Asus is now offering you the chance to tell the world who you are with its latest W5 line of laptops. Aimed at the consumer rather than the mobile worker, the buyer can choose between a matt black or an artic white chassis.
Regardless of the chassis colour, the W5 weighs 1.6kg and incorporates a number of design features that will draw attention. Supporting Intel’s Sonoma launch, the W5 has a 533MHz FSB and 915GM chipset. Built into the lid is a 1.3-megapixel that can be rotated for easier taking of images.
The 12.1-inch widescreen TFT has a high-definition panel, which Asus is calling Crystal Shine, which offers greater contrast and image definition. Graphics are handled by the Intel Media Accelerator 900 integrated solution. The W5 will ship with a standard 6-cell battery that Asus is claiming offers up to four hours of average battery life. Optional batteries – both 3-cell and 9-cell – are available.
Two models are currently available:
Asus W5343A-BH (£1291 inc. VAT) has a Pentium M 730 (1.6GHz) processor, 512MB DDR400 memory, 60GB hard drive and Windows XP Home.
Asus W5359A-UP (£1408 inc. VAT) has a Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz) processor, 512MB DDR400 memory, 80GB hard drive and Windows XP Professional.
