DISGO DISKONKEY XKEY

A recent piece of research from IT analyst group Gartner shows employees work an extra two to six hours a week when equipped to work from home. And that’s exactly what the DiskOnKey Xkey allows. You can take your entire Outlook details with you (contacts, emails, attachments and address book) in total safety, in a form factor that fits in your pocket. Then, when you’re at home or in an Internet café, you can do all of your work as if you were in the office, with complete security either offline or online. The savings are huge: no laptops; no extra tech-support; no expensive copies of Office on your home machine and total peace of mind.

To get the DiskOnKey Xkey up and running is simple. You just plug it into a spare USB slot, wait a few seconds until the host computer recognises it, then type in your user name and password. If your machine is online it will synchronise with your company’s Exchange server and get your latest emails over an encrypted SSL VPN link, but if it’s offline then you still have access to all of your data. The interface the DiskOnKey Xkey uses is web-based and is “Outlook-like”, and mostusers will get used to it in a few seconds. The big advantage to the DiskOnKey Xkey is the compression used during synchronisation.

Because most users will be using this out of the office, the system has been designed to synchronise whenever it can and on whatever connection is available. The Xkey has a built-in processor that handles compression and the encryption of data on the key. The system has a stealth mode that eliminates all traces of itself on any machine it’s plugged into. Data access is also password protected in case it’s accidentally lost.

The DiskOnKey Xkey we looked at had a storage capacity of 128MB, which should be enough for most users to work with. On launch there will also be 256MB, 512MB and 1GB versions of the Xkey available. The big play for buyers is the cost savings associated with this device, which include no expensive laptop, no additional tech-support, no security risks and no additional copies of Microsoft Office, plus up to six free hours of additional work from your employees. This should mean a very quick return on investment, and a huge improvement in efficiency.
