WIRELESS NETWORKS

Cables rule the modern office, whether they're connecting the separate parts of a computer, or running from floor ports to a server hidden away in a back room

But the introduction of wireless networking has brought a greater degree of freedom to the workspace. No longer are you restricted when deciding where computers are set up. With wireless networking, new machines can be added without much expense, fuss or forethought. Older buildings with thicker walls and solid floors can also benefit from wireless, and expensive alterations don't have to be made.

Most of the units we have reviewed in this issue take advantage of the recently ratified IEEE 802.11g standard. Using the same 2.4GHz frequency as the established IEEE 802.11b standard, the new rating offers up to five times the data speed.
