Samsung X20

Samsung has introduced a new range of laptops that support the use of Intel’s Sonoma platform. The X Series sees a complete top to bottom re-invention of the Samsung line, with three new designs comprising the X20, X25 and X50. With 802.11a/b/g supports across the range and a variety of graphics options, there is something to suit any buyer

The Samsung X20 LVC 730 (£899 inc. VAT) has a 15.1-inch TFT screen and uses Samsung’s SuperBright LCD technology. Powered by an Intel Pentium M 730 (1.6GHz) processor with 533FSB and 2MB Level 2 cache, 512MB of memory and 40GB hard drive. Surprisingly, this comes in a chassis that weighs a mere 2.4kg.

The X50 LWC 740 (£1249 inc. VAT) is a 15.4-inch widescreen machine that is powered by a Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz), 512MB DDR memory and 60GB hard disk. The specification is rounded out by a 64MB ATi Mobility Radeon X600 graphics processor. Once again, the lightweight machine is lighter than it looks, with an overall weight of 2.4kg.

The new laptops work with Samsung’s latest docking solution, the X-Dock, which provides access to addition ports - Parallel, Serial, four USB 2.0 ports and DVi (Digital Visual interface). Samsung’s latest audio and visual technologies, DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine) includes a motion optimiser to keep moving images sharp, colour optimiser, contrast enhancer and detail enhancer provide crisp clear images and video. DNSe (Digital Natural Sound engine) optimises the sound for the notebook speakers, boosting base and high frequencies whilst increasing the sense of three-dimensional sound.
