With well over 100 Sonoma designs expected in the coming months, Dell is among the first manufacturers to announce a new chassis design to accompany the launch of Intel’s latest chipset.
Designed as a replacement for the 8600 series, the Dell Inspiron 6000 takes its look and styling from the Inspiron 9200, released at the end of 2004. Gone is the blue and silver look, in favour of silver and white. The 15.4-inch TFT panel has a 1280 x 800-pixel (WXGA) resolution and is supported by the 915GM integrated graphics solution. Supporting the Intel Centrino 2 platform, the Inspiron 6000 comes with a range of processors, up to and including Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz), as well as support for 802.11a/b/g networks.
The Inspiron 6000 will be the first Dell laptop to take advantage of the Dell Media Experience, which is a software utility provided by CyberLink to offer a centralised point for accessing your images, video and music. Users can load directly into the application from within Windows or when they first boot-up the system. As it’s Windows based it won’t offer any battery conservation but as it will make loading back into Windows easier.
