Acer, a company best known for its PCs, makes its digital camera debut with three competitively priced high-resolution models. The line-up includes the 6-megapixel CR-6530, the ultraslim 5-megapixel CS-5530 and the entry-level 5-megapixel CR-5130. All three cameras feature 3x optical zoom, an aluminium housing, a 64MB SD memory card, imaging software, a carrying case and the usual scene modes.
The flagship CR-6530 (£229 inc. VAT) has a black body, reminiscent of SLR cameras, with a fingergroove for a firm and comfortable grip. Photos can be composed on the 2.5-inch LCD panel or through the viewfinder, which is particularly useful in bright sunlight. For style-conscious consumers, the CS-5530 silver slimline model (£199 inc. VAT) is also equipped with a viewfinder and a 2.5-inch LCD panel. It weighs a modest 180g and has a 6cm Macro Mode. For first-time digital camera buyers, the CR-5130 (£149 inc. VAT) eschews the traditional viewfinder but has a 1.5-inch LCD panel and a 10cm Macro Mode.
Riding the wave of convergence, Acer is releasing the cameras in the UK and Europe to enhance its portfolio of digital home entertainment devices. Images can be viewed and shared with others using a PC or a flat screen TV with memory card reader.
