Targeting opposite ends of the spectrum, Dell has released an ultraportable laptop for the mobile user and a refresh to its powerful Inspiron XPS gaming system.
Offering mobility lacking from Dell’s consumer range is the Inspiron 630m. Weighing 2.5kg, Intel’s 915GM chipset allows for low power consumption. Dell claims a battery life of more than five hours for effective work on the move.
Integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth keeps users connected and the 14.1-inch TFT widescreen panel can be fitted with an antiglare TrueLife screen coating for high-definition images.
For gaming enthusiasts, the Inspiron XPS M170 updates the acclaimed XPS laptop. Retaining the same 17-inch TFT screen chassis design for optimum visual performance, the M170 uses an nVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX graphics chip for high-end gaming.
Measuring just 394 x 282 x 49mm, the M170 provides mobility lacking from many gaming laptops. With multimedia buttons lining the chassis, and a built-in subwoofer, the M170 functions as much as a home-entertainment centre as a gaming system.
Available now, the Inspiron XPS M170 starts at £1621 (inc. VAT) with pricing for the Inspiron 630m still to be confirmed at time of publication. For a full review of the M170, see the next issue of WL on sale 24th November.
