FLASHY PIXEL PUSHER Acer is making its digital camera debut with three competitively priced models, including the flagship 6-megapixel CR-6530 (£229 inc. VAT), which has a black body. Reminiscent of SLR cameras, it has a fingergroove for a firm and comfortable grip. Pictures can be composed on the 2.5-inch LCD panel or through the viewfinder, which is particularly useful in bright sunlight. The camera also features 3x optical zoom, an aluminium casing, and a 64MB SD memory card for storing pictures. Photographers can choose from eight scene modes, six white balance modes and a 90mm macro mode. Acer also throws in a carrying case and imaging software. GO-GETTERS GET THE MESSAGE Busy professionals need never be out of reach with the Nokia 6822 mobile phone. The tri-band messaging handset, reminiscent of the 6820, has a unique design with a collapsible QWERTY keyboard to assist thumb typists with their text compositions. It supports Blackberry push-email (with operator availability), instant messaging and common email protocols such as SMTP, IMAP4, POP3, and SyncML. Bluetooth and infrared connectivity are on-board for wirelessly sychronising data with a PC. Web browsing is enhanced with speedy GPRS networking and a high-resolution colour display supporting 128 x 128 pixels. The 6822 also features a VGA camera and basic PIM functionality for task management, with a modest 3.5MB of internal memory for file storage. MOVIES IN YOUR POCKET The Samsung YH-999 (£399.99) Portable Media Centre makes a fine travelling companion for the multimedia afi cionado. Featuring a 20GB hard drive for storing up to 80 hours of video, the unit has a slim silver body only 20.5mm thick. Based on the Windows platform, it supports WMV video files at a 320 x 240- pixel resolution, displayed on a standard 3.5-inch LCD display. For music lovers, the YH-999 also plays MP3 and WMA audio files. If you don’t want to wear headphones, the YH-999 comes with a built-in speaker. A video-out port lets you view movies on your TV or display a slideshow accompanied by music for family and friends. It's equipped with a USB port for transferring files from a PC, as well as USB-on-the-go for connecting to a digital camera for directly downloading images.
