Business users looking to stay connected when even in the air can now take advantage of a new roaming agreement between Vodafone and Boeing Airlines as part of its Connexion in-flight Wi-Fi service.
The latest generation of Vodafone’s 3G datacards support Wi-Fi, as well as GPRS/3G roaming services. Connexion will act as the in-flight access point, which works in exactly the same way as a hotpsot portal on the ground, offering business customers the use of always-on data from a laptop of handheld. Connexion access charges will be billed directly to the customers' Vodafone invoice. Connexion will charge a flat rate of $30 for long-haul flights, which last over six hours. For shorter flights, a fee of $20 will be made applicable. Alternatively, a metered service will be made available, with pricing starting at $10 for the first 30 minutes and 25 cents a minute thereafter.
Initially available on a trial basis, Vidafone and Connexion will be offering the service from the end of January on many of its long-haul flights.
