Apple has refreshed its G4 PowerBook series, boosting the specs and lowering the prices, as Mac fans eagerly await the move to G5 processors. The company’s latest laptops feature 512MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11g Wi-Fi and powerful dedicated graphics as standard. A scrolling trackpad and Sudden Motion Sensor technology, to protect a spinning hard drive if a laptop is bumped or dropped, are also on-board. The 15- and 17-inch models come equipped with a backlit keyboard, Gigabit Ethernet and 800Mpbs FireWire.
At the top end of the range, the 17-inch model (£1,849 inc. VAT) has a 1.67GHz processor, 100GB hard drive, DVD burner and ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics with 128MB VRAM. Creative and business professionals on a tighter budget can opt for the 12-inch model (£1,049 inc. VAT) with a 1.5GHz processor, 60GB hard drive, CD burner and nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 graphics with 64MB VRAM. The revamped G4 PowerBook line-up goes on sale this week.
