Creative is well know for its range of soundcards for desktop PCs and has increasingly gained a reputation for developing external cards for laptops. The company has now gone one-step further and produced its first PC Card based solution.
The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (£100 inc. VAT) fits into any standard Type II PC card slot. Supporting 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, it includes digital inputs and outputs and enables users to enjoy playing games, watching movies or simply listening to music with an improved overall sound. The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook offers hardware-accelerated support in the form of EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD and 3D positional audio for games. It provides 104dB SNR and supports 24-bit/192kHz Advanced Resolution DVD-Audio - the highest quality, according to Creative, currently available for laptop use.
Creative suggests that the Audigy 2 ZS will also be useful in the creation of music but with no support for MIDI inputs, the card still lags way behind dedicated modules. However, for consumers looking to improve the sound quality of their laptop, this could well be the answer.
