Halloween may have come and gone but the season of ghouls and the undead is upon us in the shape of DeadMan’s Handle, a new concept in protecting data on your laptop.
Essentially, should your laptop be stolen and an unauthorised user tries to access your data, it will be invisibly erased from the system. The program will then also erase itself so no trace of its being there will be logged for hackers to try and re-create the data from. According to the manufacturers, “this misdirection is a key part of DeadMan's Handle: no incentive is provided for more information gathering”.
