Palm’s Treo range received a new addition this week, with the release of the Treo Pro – a corporate-aimed handset looking to take on the Blackberry head-on.
Costing £399 SIM-free, the Pro looks like a smarter Treo Centro, Palm’s consumer smartphone. You’ll find the same rubberised QWERTY keypad, and a similar 320 x 320 pixel touchscreen display. This time it sits flush with the bezel, however, giving the Pro a slicker and more upmarket appearance.
While appearances may be similar, the Treo Pro is infinitely better equipped. This Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device comes with 3G/HSDPA connectivity, offering fast access to your emails when out of the office, and a Wi-Fi chip to connect easily to the internet.
Features include a 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth. Storage space can be expanded by Micro SD card, and support for Micro SDHC means you’ll be able to add cards of up to 32GB. Like most of its rivals, a GPS chip is built-in, allowing use as a satellite navigation device. The Treo Pro is set to go on sale in September, and will be available for free with o2 and Vodaphone contracts.
We’ll be getting our hands on the Treo Pro in the next couple of weeks, so be sure to see issue 117 of What Laptop for a full review.
