FIRST LOOK REVIEW
When it was first announced, the Toshiba Qosmio was seen as something of a gimmick, a deskbound laptop that wanted to take over your living room. A year on, the concept has been so successful that, according to Toshiba, the high-end Qosmio has proven to be the best selling machine in the range.
The Toshiba Qosmio G20 builds on the success with a new chassis design. Gone is the silver of the previous version, this year we’re looking at black lacquer, which certainly stands the G20 apart from anything else currently available. The use of a 17-inch LiteBrite screen is the main focus, with its 500NITS brightness, more than twice the brightness of a standard TFT panel. Even dropping down into battery mode
The styling of the chassis incorporates a volume dial on the right-hand side for getting the sound right. As it’s software linked, the user won’t need to fiddle with any other settings. The most impressive aspect of the G20 is the sound quality, Toshiba has certainly made the most of the Harmon/Kardon speakers, making watching DVDs something a little special. The front-loading DVD rewriter also has a new look.
The Qosmio G20 is not only about a new look and outward features. Inside the case, Toshiba has opted for the 915 chipset, which offers faster bandwidth and also support for PCI-Express. ATi Mobility Radeon X600 graphics card for the latest gaming experiences. We were more than impressed with our first look at the G20. Toshiba has learnt a lot from previous versions, making this edition lighter as well as brighter.
