ACER TRAVELMATE C200
19/09/2005

At its Global Conference this weekend, Acer highlighted a number of new products that it will be releasing in the coming months. The one that caught our eye as it reflected off the haze of the Aegean sea was their new Tablet PC. Just when we thought the IT world had all but given up on releasing Tablet PCs with any hint of innovation, Acer has come along with the TravelMate C200.

The 12/1-inch Tablet PC takes the usual clamshell design, so you get a keyboard for typing duties, as well as a fold-down screen for use in tablet mode. Where the C200 differs from most units is the way you change modes. Gone is the central pivot and in comes a slider that makes life that little bit easier and a great deal more stylish.

With no new release of the OS, the specification of the unit is fairly typical. Comprising Centrino technology and Acer’s own suite of ePerfomance tools, we were impressed with what was on offer. Pricing is still to be set and we won’t see the rollout until October but Acer could well have taken a leap forward in a market that needs energizing.
