With GPS (Global Positioning Systems) currently responsible for over 70 percent of handheld sales, it seems only natural that PalmOne, the number one PDA provider, should enter the market. Initially designed with its popular consumer range in mind, the company is offering a bundled package of a handheld, either the Zire 31 or 72, along with a car mounting kit and power adapter.
The entry-level device is the Zire 31 bundle (£250 inc, VAT), which offers maps on a CD-ROM, which can then be loaded onto the device using your laptop. The more expensive Zire 72 (£350 inc. VAT) offers the same mounting stand but comes with the maps preloaded onto a Secure Digital card for ease of use. All maps will be provided by Michelin, which is a standalone product in its own right, with extra data available from the PalmOne website. So, whether you’re lost in Luton or confused in Cumbria, you’ll be able to find your way home and live to tell the tale.
