REMOTE CONTROL FOR THE MASSES
12/11/2004

We’ve all heard scary stories about mysterious hackers wresting remote control of home computers and wreaking havoc. Now Buffalo has brought remote-access into the realm of goodness with a wireless networking solution which gives users access to their home or office computer from anywhere in the world. The AirStation 125 High Speed Mode Wireless Secure Remote Gateway (WZR-RS-G54 for short) lets consumers and businesses travellers retrieve emails, files and programs when on the road.

With the 802.11g/b Wi-Fi standard, the AirStation achieves an actual data transfer rate of 34Mbps when in High Speed Mode. The system is an affordable, one-time purchase. It acts as a virtual private network server, which establishes secure connections with other computers over the Internet. There’s no need for an FTP server or a paid service. Users get full access to their home or office computer as if they were sitting in front of it. Also, the Wake-on-LAN feature lets you remotely turn on the host computer.

The AirStation will be available from December 2004, pricing to be confirmed.
