PC Nextday unveils Netbook for kids

After much hype surrounding the so-called One Laptop Per Child initiative, PC Nextday has released its own ultraportable laptop for kids. The Zoostorm Fizzbook is based around Intel’s second generation Classmate PC, and provides all the basics that a child needs for education and entertainment use.
Designed for kids aged 6 to 14, the rugged, splash-proof design is built to withstand the inevitable bumps and drops that it will receive. Powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 512MB of memory, it is similarly specified to many Netbooks currently on the market. Storage is far lower however, with just a 2GB flash card provided.
Initially the Fizzbook will be launched with a 7-inch screen, but an 8.9-inch model is scheduled for release later in the year. With full wireless connectivity, Windows XP software and a claimed 270 minute battery life, it looks to be ideal for helping kids get used to working in a Windows laptop environment. We’ll be taking a close look in the coming weeks to see if it lives up to expectations.
Available in early September, the Fizzbook will cost £199 (inc. VAT).
