Strange lights were recently seen flashing across the sky. Were these cylinders bearing the last denizens of a once thriving red planet, intent upon claiming Earth as their new home world? Amazingly not, there were actually the landing lights of the cargo plane bringing the latest laptops to join the Alienware range.
The Alienware Area-51m 7700 has landed in the form of a 17-inch TFT panel and Alienware’s usual high standard of design and build quality. Powered by the Intel Pentium 4 desktop processor, the Area-51m 7700 provides expansion of up to 4 GB of DDR 2 memory, dual hard drive support with RAID, and dual optical drives to serve as the ultimate desktop replacement system. Power-hungry gamers and enthusiasts alike will benefit from the Area-51m 7700’s removable video card modules featuring the new NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800, today’s fastest mobile graphics card.
With an overall weight of 5.6kg, you may wish for the zero gravity of outer space to make it more portable but for those of us tied to Earth’s gravity we’ll find that the Area-51m 7700 will spend most of its life on a desktop.
With prices starting at £1467 (inc. VAT), buyers can expect an Intel Penitum 4 520 processor, which runs at 2.8GHz, 256MB DDR2, 40GB hard drive running at 5400rpm and a combination DVD/CD-RW optical drive. We checked the Alienware website for pricing an availability and the company quotes that this model will not be made available until 28th December.
